aus open trophyGreat Britain’s Peter Norfolk won his fifth Australian Open quad singles title on Saturday at Melbourne Park, coming from a set down to beat defending champion and world No. 1 David Wagner of the United States 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.

It is Norfolk’s sixth singles Grand Slam title, adding to his first Australian Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships crown in 2004 before the event was classified at Grand Slam level. He has also won the US Open in New York twice.

Maikel Scheffers of the Netherlands and Britain’s Peter Norfolk OBE return to defend their men’s singles and quad singles titles respectively when a host of world top 10 ranked players line up for the 16th Nottingham Indoor Wheelchair Tennis Tour, a part of the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour, which takes place at the City of Nottingham Tennis Centre from Thursday 28th to Sunday 31st October.

Great Britain’s Andy Lapthorne and Peter Norfolk successfully retained their Australian Open quad doubles wheelchair tennis title on Thursday at Melbourne Park after they beat Israeli Noam Gershony and American David Wagner 6-4, 6-2.

Lapthorne and Norfolk secured an immediate break at the start of the final, only for Gershony and Wagner to level the match at 2-2, but three games in succession gave the Brits a healthy first set advantage.

Peter Norfolk edged out fellow Brit Andy Lapthorne 6-4, 7-6(6) at Melbourne Park on Wednesday in the first of their three round-robin quad singles matches at the Australian Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships.

World No. 2 Norfolk hit the first of two aces in the opening game of the match before twice going a break up to lead 2-0 and 4-2. Lapthorne fought back to level the contest on both occasions, but Norfolk broke again en route to taking the opening set on his first set point.
